TESTS
Coagulation and Thrombophilia
In the Coagulation and Thrombophilia department, all tests related to the evaluation of hemostasis are performed. The process of hemostasis includes the entirety of mechanisms that normally cause blood clotting and wound healing.
The measurement of prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) is considered essential for the correct adjustment of anticoagulant therapy by your treating physician.
The measurement of coagulation factors is also considered necessary in case of unexplained prolongation of the aforementioned times.
The above tests are extremely sensitive and require specialized technique and experience. An incorrect result can mislead your treating physician into administering excessive or reduced doses of anticoagulant therapy, resulting in bleeding or hypercoagulable syndrome and thrombosis, respectively.
Tests included in the Coagulation and Thrombophilia evaluation:
-
Prothrombin time PT/INR
-
Activated partial thromboplastin time APTT
-
Fibrinogen (FIB)
-
D-dimers
-
Heparin activity (Anti – Xa)
-
Antithrombin III
-
Protein C
-
Protein S
-
Lupus anticoagulant (LA)
-
APC resistance
-
Coagulation factors - activity
