The Immunology Department in a microbiological laboratory deals with the detection and quantification of antibodies, antigens, and components of the immune system, as well as the diagnosis of autoimmune, infectious, and allergic diseases.

Main Categories of Tests in the Immunology Department:

  1. Autoantibodies

    • ANA (Antinuclear Antibodies)

    • ENA panel (antibodies to SSA/Ro, SSB/La, Sm, RNP, etc.)

    • Anti-dsDNA

    • Anti-CCP (for rheumatoid arthritis)

    • RF (Rheumatoid Factor)

    • ANCA (c-ANCA, p-ANCA)

  2. Immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, IgM, IgE, IgD)

    • Total and specific immunoglobulins for the evaluation of immunodeficiency or hypersensitivity.

  3. Complement (C3, C4, CH50)

    • Evaluation of complement function in inflammatory or autoimmune conditions.

  4. Allergy Testing

    • RAST test: Specific IgE for food or inhalant allergens.

    • Total IgE

  5. Serological Tests for Infectious Diseases

    • Anti-HAV IgM/IgG, HBsAg, Anti-HCV, Anti-HIV

    • EBV, CMV, HSV IgM/IgG

    • Toxoplasma, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes (TORCH)

    • Monospot test

  6. Testing for Celiac Disease

    • Anti-tTG IgA/IgG

    • Anti-EMA

    • Total IgA (to check for IgA deficiency)

  7. Immunophenotyping (in collaboration with flow cytometry)

    • For monitoring hematological diseases (lymphomas, leukemias)
